The SustainSahel project areas
The project's focus areas are located in two to three geo-climatically stratified areas per country. These areas were identified according to the farmers´ diverse socio-economic situations. Most field trials will be set up on farmers’ fields with the active participation of the local communities.
Using action-research, SustainSahel aims to build capacity of the local stakeholders. Surveys, complemented by focus group discussions and in-depth interviews with farmers in and outside of the study region will focus on the socio-economic and labour constraints, gender-, culture- and power-relations. Adoption potential, longer-term sustainability, environmental impacts, resource use efficiency and out-scaling potential of the techniques will be analyzed based on stakeholder-built model scenarios.
